DR. GREG KOBE
Keys & Sax / Vocals

GREG KOBE - Key / Sax / Vocals

Greg kicked off his musical career in the great copper country of the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, where he grew up. Greg began with piano and saxophone lessons at a young age. He began playing the B3 organ seriously in his mid 20's, but he mostly played the sax early on. At the age of 16, Greg was a member of the band named, "The Playboys", with some of his high school buddies. It is believed that "The Playboys" were the first rock and roll band ever in the U.P. They recorded and released their first original song called, "Someday" which was played on many local radio stations.

Greg and some of the "Playboys" became the band "The Vigilantes". They soon moved to Chicago to record on the Mercury label and then the Heartbeat label where they recorded the song "Harlem Nocture", which was a juke box hit around Chicago. The Vigilante band then evolved into the "All-niter" band and ended up in Port Huron at the Colony Bar. This is when Greg first met Dave Klink, the eventual drummer for the Voo-Doo Doctors.

Greg left the All-niters to join the band "The Capries" where he started playing the B3 organ. The Capries had a semi hit called "Rosanna". Greg then moved on to the band "My Friends" and a contract with Motown Records. They released a single called "I'm An Easy Rider", that received air play across the country. The song reached number one on the charts in several cities in the U.S.

Greg then took his show on the road and ended up in South Carolina playing with an original band called "Horizon", but soon headed back to Michigan in the early 70's. Greg decided he didn't want to starve any more so he joined with Dave Klink and the "Tercels".

After the Tercels, Greg, Dave and Curt Franklin became the band "Windsong". After that, it was the "Austin" band and eventually they joined the "Burnwood" band. Greg and Dave played with the Burnwood band for 10 years before leaving.

Then, Greg, Dave, Curt and Dan Hedt joined forces in the "Phoenix" band for several years. They broke up when Curt moved to Colorado.

Greg then was in the "B sharps" band before joining The Voo-Doo Doctors in the year 2000, and has been with them ever since.
